Racists and Bigots to Descend on CPAC Conference in Washington, DC

The February 2012 Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), an annual event that features a wide variety of speakers from conservative circles, will host a session on “the failure of multiculturalism” that will include racist Peter Brimelow as a speaker. Brimelow runs the racist and anti-immigrant Web site VDARE and has spoken at racist gatherings, including the September 2011 national conference of the National Policy Institute (NPI), a white supremacist think tank, as well as the 2009 Baltimore, Maryland, conference “Preserving Western Civilization.”  He is also a contributing editor of the Web site Alternative Right, which is edited by white supremacist Richard Spencer, who also heads NPI.

Also appearing at this year’s CPAC event are several anti-Muslim bigots and activists, among them the leaders and founders of the anti-Muslim organization Stop Islamization of America (SIOA), Pamela Geller and Robert Spencer. Together with Tea Party nation, SIOA will host a session titled “Islamic Law in America: How the Obama Justice Department is Selling Us Out.” In addition to speeches by Geller and Spencer, the session will include appearances by David Yerushalmi, one of the driving forces behind the anti-Shariah movement.

This is not the first time Geller has appeared at CPAC promoting her anti-Muslim conspiracies. In 2009, Geller attended the conference with radical anti-Muslim Dutch parliamentarian Geert Wilders.

Academic Department Co-Sponsors Farrakhan Appearance at Chicago State University

The African-American Studies Program at Chicago State University (CSU) sponsored a lecture by Louis Farrakhan, the anti-Semitic leader of the Nation of Islam (NOI), at the University’s Jacoby Dickens Center on January 25. According to the NOI, Farrakhan’s son-in-law and longtime aide Leonard Muhammad “worked closely” with CSU faculty and staff to make Farrakhan’s address on education in the African-American community happen.

In an interview last fall, Farrakhan described a growing willingness among university administrators to invite him to their campuses despite the nefarious influence of “forces that have seen me as anti-Semitic or anti-White or racist or however they wish to describe me.” In 2011, Farrakhan spoke at Howard University, Jackson State University and Prairie View A&M University—though unlike the CSU event, none of those appearances were sponsored by academic departments.
Farrakhan’s address at CSU comes within weeks of the NOI’s annual Saviours’ Day convention, which is taking place in Rosemont and Chicago, Illinois, from February 24–26, 2012.

Four Days to the Penn BDS Conference

In advance of this weekend’s BDS conference at the University of Pennsylvania, we are highlighting five of the most anti-Israel individuals scheduled to speak at the conference.

Number 4: Helena Cobban
Today we profile Helena Cobban, an anti-Israel writer, publisher and the former executive director of the Council for the National Interest, an organization that regularly sends delegations of its supporters to meet with Hamas and Hezbollah representatives in the Middle East.
Cobban consistently tries to portray Israel as the only guilty party in the conflict and has alleged that Israel’s military engages in “voluntary ethnic cleansing” of the Palestinians. In January 2009, shortly after the Gaza War ended, Cobban spoke at an event at Georgetown University where she harshly criticized Israel and Israelis, saying she can’t believe “how stupid Israelis are” and claimed that Israelis are “incapable of empathy and compassion for other people.”
