Amid New Black Panther Controversy, Dallas County Halts Appointment of Aaron McCarthy

Just hours after controversy arose surrounding the re-appointment of Aaron McCarthy to the Dallas County Commission’s Homeland Security Advisory Council due to his role as founder of the racist and anti-Semitic New Black Panther Party for Self Defense (NBPP), the Commission postponed its vote. Officials cited doubts about the overall value of the advisory committee, not McCarthy’s former affiliation with a hate group, as the reason for the decision.
Concerns about McCarthy’s involvement in the Homeland Security Advisory Council are not unwarranted. Despite the fact that that McCarthy, also known as Aaron Michaels, has not held a significant leadership role with the NBPP in recent years, his militant leadership of the group throughout much of the 1990s is well documented. During his tenure, the NBPP invited a white supremacist leader to speak at a rally promoting racial separatism and engaged in racially-charged, armed confrontations.

American Anti-Muslim Organization Goes Global

Update: Stop Islamization of Nations (SION) will hold a “Global Counter Jihad Rally” in Stockholm, Sweden in early August. This will mark the first time SION and its U.S. and trans-Atlantic supporters will gather for a public event.
The latest outgrowth of the trans-Atlantic cooperation between anti-Muslim activists was announced on January 17 by Pamela Geller, head of Stop Islamization of American (SIOA). Geller announced on her blog that SIOA, an organization that promotes a conspiratorial anti-Muslim agenda under the guise of fighting radical Islam, is joining forces with its sister organization in Denmark, Stop Islamisation of Europe (SIOE), whose campaigns against Islam in Europe have influenced Geller’s campaigns in the U.S.

The new organization, called Stop Islamization of Nations (SION), purports to “stand for freedom and oppose the advance of Islamic law, Sharia,” and says it will offer “diversity and sensitivity training to corporations and government agencies…to help these entities understand the jihad threat.” Geller and her longtime associate Robert Spencer will assume leadership of this organization, which will likely serve as another platform to disseminate SIOA/SIOE’s conspiratorial agenda.

Anti-Israel Activism Hits Brooklyn High School

ADL has information that more than 75 universities and colleges have formal anti-Israel groups that operate under the name “Students for Justice in Palestine.” These groups invite anti-Israel speakers to campus, organize BDS campaigns and coordinate Israeli Apartheid Week events and other similar programs. High schools, however, were not considered a likely venue for student organized anti-Israel activity. Until now.

Students at Brooklyn Technical High School recently formed a Students for Justice in Palestine chapter at their school. The group meets weekly and even has a Facebook page. Are high schools going to be a new frontier for the domestic anti-Israel movement? Leave your comments and thoughts below.
