Day 16 Of Anti-Israel Protests In U.S.

On Tuesday, July 22, demonstrations against Israel took place in seven cities in the United States, including Boston, Chicago and Seattle. As in the previous two weeks, these demonstrations featured messages comparing Israel to Nazi Germany and accusations of Israeli genocide against the Palestinian people.

Below are summaries of some of yesterday’s demonstrations:

Boston, MA

A few hundred demonstrators gathered in Copley Square for a rally sponsored by several anti-Israel groups, including the Boston chapter of Jewish Voice for Peace and several Boston-area Students for Justice in Palestine chapters. Protesters held signs that read “From Auschwitz to Palestine, My Ancestors are crying… SHAME!,” “Not even the Holocaust gives you the right to do this!,” “The blood is on your hands (written on the image of an Israeli flag with blood-stained handprints), and “Jewish terrorist state” (accompanied by an image of American and Israeli hands being shaken with blood pouring out).

From Auschwitz to Palestine my ancestors are crying

The protesters also conducted a “die-in” outside the Massachusetts State House. A representative from Neturei Karta, a fringe ultra-Orthodox anti-Zionist group, spoke to the crowd and said, “The State of Israel in no way represents world Jewry and all its crimes are not condoned by the Jewish religion…We all, including Jewish people, are suffering from this criminal state of Israel.”

Chicago, IL

A few hundred people attended a counter-protest of a pro-Israel rally outside the Israeli Consulate. The protest, which was organized by the US Palestinian Community Network, featured a die-in. At one point, many of the protesters shouted  - “Racists, go home!,” referring to the crowd of Israel supporters.

Well done Israel - Hitler would be proud

Many of the protesters held signs with slogans such as “If 9/11 deserves a moment of silence then Palestine deserves to never speak again,” “Zionism is Nazism,” “One Holocaust does not justify another! Netanyahu is a war criminal” (written next to a picture of Netanyahu’s face with an equal sign, and a Swastika), “Stop doing what Hitler did to you,” and “Well Done Israel, Hitler Would Be Proud” (written next to the image of an Israeli flag with a Swastika replacing the Star of David).

Seattle, WA

Three anti-Israel demonstrations took place in Seattle, including one scheduled to coincide with the arrival of President Barack Obama who was in town for scheduled fundraisers. Protesters positioned themselves outside one fundraiser held signs that read “A government that backs criminal oppression is oppressive,” “Genocide is not justice,” “Stop Israeli state terrorism,” and “Boycott Israeli apartheid.”
