SJP Member Appears On Press TV To Promote BDS Movement

Kumars Salehi, a member of New York University’s Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) chapter, appeared last week on Press TV, Iran’s government-run English-language satellite news network, to promote the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement against Israel.kumars-salehi-sjp-presstv-iaw

During the interview, Salehi claimed that BDS, “targets the state of Israel, institutions within Israel that refuse to be against their government’s policies, as well as companies that profit from the occupation and Israel’s occupation economy.” Salehi made sure to also point out his support for a full boycott of Israeli goods, stating that the BDS campaign is against, “not just those products that are made in the settlements.”

Press TV has emerged as the Iranian government’s primary propaganda tool to promote a wide range of pernicious anti-Semitic conspiracy theories in English to a worldwide audience. Press TV has provided a platform for some of the most well-known anti-Semites, including anti-Semite David Duke, anti-Semitic columnist Kevin Barrett, and Holocaust-denying book publisher Michael Santomauro, among others.

Salehi’s interview coincided with the start of Israeli Apartheid Week (IAW), which is taking place in various cities around the world. SJP has organized many IAW activities in the U.S., including the distribution of mock eviction notices at Ohio State University, University of North Carolina, and Northeastern University.

During Salehi’s appearance last week, the program’s host described the U.S. Congress being “controlled by the likes of AIPAC and the other pro-Israel lobbies” as a hurdle to the success of BDS.

Salehi has appeared on Press TV at least four times since December 2013. During his December interview, Salehi alleged that Israel is sabotaging the ongoing peace negotiations in order “to continue killing Palestinians”and build settlements in the West Bank.

I WAS IN THE OCCUPIED TERRITORIES AS WELL AS ISRAEL PROPER.
I SUPPORT THE BOYCOTT. THE ABUSE OF SECOND CLASS INDIVIDUALS VIA APARTHEID NEEDS TO STOP.
SORRY FOR THE GOOD ISRAELIS WHO MAY SUFFER BUT THEY ARE OUTNUMBERED BY SUFFERING PALESTINIANS.

One should consider a poll of the Palestinians of East Jerusalem in which only 30% want the PA to take over, and 40% actually would go so far as to move into Israel if that were to happen. On the ground the reality is that they know that they have better rights and freedoms, but in the media the picture is being portrayed quite differently.

Salahi may say only to boycott those industries which do not oppose the current situation, but we all know that is not what is happening. Even those who do oppose are also boycotted. He also makes it quite clear that the goal is not just to create two states, but to create one larger Arab state, in which (as has always been the case throughout history) the Jews will be second class citizens, just as all non-Muslims are in Muslim nations.

Dear Jewish Anti-Defamation League and Abraham Foxman,

You forgot to mention in your ADL blog post about SJP that Iran’s #PressTV also featured White activist John de Nugent (curator of the Leo Frank research library http://www.LeoFrank.org) during one of its programs concerning a discussion of the BDS movement. De Nugent propounded the theory that Jewish domination of the mainstream media of news and entertainment, will ultimately prevent the anti-Apartheid, Boycott, Divestment and sanctions efforts against Israel, from ever being successful. Along with this central theme of Jewish media domination was the idea that the mass surveillance efforts by the US government, will ensure that efforts against American-Israeli affairs will stay entrenched via black mail and scandal fiat against individuals opposed to the the US-Israel political alliance.
