Iranian Leaders Admit Providing Hamas With Missiles And Rockets To Fight Israel

Sev­eral Iran­ian lead­ers have taken credit for pro­vid­ing arms and rock­ets to Hamas and Islamic Jihad in Gaza, accord­ing to state­ments trans­lated by the Anti-Defamation League from the orig­i­nal Farsi.

Among those boast­ing of Iran’s aid to Hamas was Ali Lar­i­jani, Speaker of the Iran­ian Par­lia­ment and close con­fi­dant to Supreme Leader Aya­tol­lah Ali Khamenei. Dur­ing a par­lia­men­tary rally for Pales­tine on Wednes­day, Lar­i­jani admit­ted Iran’s involve­ment in arm­ing Hamas with weapons, “We announce with pride that we sup­port the peo­ple of Pales­tine and Hamas. We are proud that our help to the peo­ple of Pales­tine includes mate­r­ial and mil­i­tary (support).”

At a Basij cer­e­mony on Wednes­day, Islamic Rev­o­lu­tion­ary Guards Corps (IRGC) Major Gen­eral Muham­mad Ali Ja’afar acknowl­edged that Iran “can­not send weapons there (to Gaza),” but made it clear that Iran has “given theme (Hamas) the nec­es­sary tech­nol­ogy for the Fajr 5 and today mass quan­ti­ties of this mis­sile are being pro­duced.” At the same cer­e­mony, Vice Chief of State of the Armed Forces Masoud Jaza­y­eri warned Israel that “No Iran dome will be able to tol­er­ate the mis­siles of the resis­tance,” and that Pales­tin­ian ter­ror groups have many weapons capa­bil­i­ties “that have not arrived on the war scene yet.”

Iranian Leaders Call For Israel’s Annihilation In Anticipation Of Jerusalem Day

At a time of height­ened inter­na­tional ten­sions over Iran’s nuclear pro­gram, Iran­ian lead­ers have been using the occa­sion of  annual Jerusalem Day demon­stra­tions, tak­ing place today in cities around the world, to amplify their threats against the Jew­ish state.

  • Speaker of par­lia­ment Ali Lar­i­jani opened Thursday’s par­lia­men­tary ses­sion declar­ing, “God will­ing, this move­ment of the Mus­lims toward the goal of end­ing and remov­ing this can­cer­ous tumor called Israel will be accomplished.”

  • Another call to anni­hi­late Israel, made by Iran’s high­est author­ity fig­ure dur­ing a speech on Wednes­day evening, was broad­cast on state tele­vi­sion. Supreme Leader Aya­tol­lah Ali Khamenei, the final deci­sion maker on all of Iran’s poli­cies, said, “The ille­git­i­mate Zion­ist state will def­i­nitely be erad­i­cated from the face of the world.”
  • In an August 1 meet­ing with rep­re­sen­ta­tive from Islamic coun­tries in Tehran, Pres­i­dent Mah­moud Ahmadine­jad stated that “Jerusalem Day is the only way to lib­er­ate Pales­tine.” He then added, “It has now been some 400 years that a hor­ren­dous Zion­ist clan has been rul­ing over major world affairs; [they] are behind the scenes in the major power cir­cles, in polit­i­cal, media, finan­cial, and bank­ing orga­ni­za­tions in the world…”

Such anti-Israel state­ments from top level Iran­ian offi­cials usu­ally inten­sify in the days before Jerusalem Day, a day of protest first started in 1979 by Aya­tol­lah Ruhol­lah Khome­ini against Israel. The day is held on the last Fri­day of Ramadan and is observed through­out the Mus­lim world.

Senior Iranian Officials Endorse “Global March to Jerusalem”

The Asian wing of the Global March to Jerusalem (GMJ) arrived Sat­ur­day in Tehran, where a del­e­ga­tion from the con­voy met with the pres­i­dent of the Iran­ian par­lia­ment, Ali Lar­i­jani, and the Iran­ian Pres­i­dent Mah­moud Ahmadine­jad. The Asia GMJ con­voy began its jour­ney to Iran in Indone­sia on March 10.

Accord­ing to Iran­ian news sources, Lar­i­jani wel­comed the del­e­ga­tion of 120 con­voy mem­bers and affirmed Iran’s sup­port­ive stance towards the Pales­tin­ian cause. “We as Ira­ni­ans, can­not ignore the Pales­tin­ian issue,” he said, adding, “The Pales­tin­ian peo­ple have their legit­i­mate rights; the West and Amer­ica instead of rec­og­niz­ing these rights are try­ing to oblit­er­ate and ignore them.”

Iran’s con­tro­ver­sial nuclear pro­gram was among the top­ics Lar­i­jani dis­cussed with the del­e­ga­tion. Accus­ing “the ene­mies” of Iran of delib­er­ately gen­er­at­ing an inter­na­tional out­cry over the pro­gram, he asserted, “The U.S. is wrong if it believes that it can still impose its dom­i­na­tion over Mus­lim coun­tries, because Mus­lims have been awak­ened and the recent rev­o­lu­tions are an exam­ple of this Islamic Awak­en­ing.” Lar­i­jani also rejected homo­sex­u­al­ity as immoral and deviant, charg­ing that “the world is head­ing towards the end because of them.” Chal­leng­ing West­ern crit­i­cism of Iran’s human rights record, he added, “[The ene­mies] accuse us of not tak­ing human rights into account, while they ignore human rights vio­la­tions com­mit­ted by their cronies in the [Gulf] region.”

On Sun­day, GMJ mem­bers held a brief meet­ing with Ahmadine­jad, where he described the GMJ as a “his­toric movement.”
