Racists to Rally in South Carolina Against Immigration Reform

On December 7, 2013, the League of the South (LOS), a racist neo-Confederate organization, will hold a rally in Greenville, South Carolina, targeting Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) for his support of immigration reform. Graham along with seven other Senators formed the “Gang of Eight” and drafted S.744, the Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act which eventually passed the Senate in June 2013.league-of-the-south-logo

Brad Griffin aka “Hunter Wallace,” the founder of the white supremacist website Occidental Dissent, is one of the key promoters of the Greenville event. Numerous blogs promoting the LOS rally and attacking Lindsey Graham appear on the Occidental Dissent website. Some of the attacks on Graham on Occidental Dissent are anti-Semitic. In one blog, Griffin wrote, “If Lindsey Graham isn’t ‘controlled by the Jews,’ he sure gives off that impression.”  Another claimed Graham visited Florida recently to “shakedown the elderly Jewish Zionists in Palm Beach County in the hope of getting a handsome kickback for his tireless warmongering against Iran and Syria.”

The LOS rally in Greenville is the third immigration rally the organization staged since the summer. While the rallies in Georgia and Tennessee targeted a local politician and the state’s immigration policies respectively, the South Carolina rally is the first time in this campaign that the LOS is targeting a federal politician. On the Facebook event page for the Greenville rally, LOS claims Graham “is one of the most outspoken enemies of the Southern people who has long supported Third World immigration and amnesty for illegal immigrants.”

Graham’s stance on immigration also prompted a number of anti-immigrant organizations to target him earlier in the year. NumbersUSA, the anti-immigrant movement’s grassroots organizer, launched a $150,000 TV and radio ad campaign against Graham in his home state in February. In April the anti-immigrant group Dustin Inman Society (DIS) funded a billboard seen on an Atlanta highway attacking Graham for his support of immigration reform.
