Anti-Semitic Conspiracies Continue In Aftermath Of Paris Attacks

Conspiracy theories blaming Jews and Israel for the terror attack at the Charlie Hebdo office in Paris continue to surface in the U.S. and abroad.

In addition to previously reported examples, recent instances of American anti-Semites exploiting the tragedy to promote hatred for Jews include:

Brandon Martinez's on Press TV

Press TV’s reporting on the attacks

  • Paul Craig Roberts, an anti-Semitic syndicated columnist, wrote an article on his personal website claiming that there are suspicions “that the French shootings are a false flag operation.” Roberts identified several reasons for this, including “to stifle the growing European sympathy for the Palestinians and to realign Europe with Israel.”
  • On Press TV, Iran’s English-language satellite news network, in a January 13 article titled “Analyst wonders whether Cahrlie [sic] Hebdo massacre was staged,” Brandon Martinez blamed “Zionists” for a number of the world’s evils. For example, Martinez wrote that Al-Qaeda and ISIS are “all outgrowths of the same poisonous American-Zionist imperial tree.”
  • On January 12, on Veterans Today, a U.S.-based website that presents anti-Semitic conspiracy theories as news, Senior Editor Gordon Duff published an article titled “Did Netanyahu Give France Their 9/11?” In the article, he describes the attacks as a “comic opera of carelessly staged false flag terrorism” carried out by “the Mossad and the criminal banks, part of the pro-Israeli ISIS organization.”

Internationally, similar conspiracy theories have been published in some media outlets and been promoted by various individuals:

Ankara Mayor Melih Gökçek

Ankara Mayor Melih Gökçek blaming Mossad for the attacks

  • Turkey: According to a report from Anadolu News Agency circulating in the Turkish media, Ankara’s Mayor, Melih Gokcek accused Israel of being behind the Paris attacks. He made his statement during a conference by the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) on January 13. He claimed Israel was annoyed with the lower house of the French Parliament for voting for the recognition of a Palestinian state and with France’s vote in favor of a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolution calling for the same recognition. “Israel certainly doesn’t want this sentiment to expand in Europe. That is why it is certain that Mossad is behind these kinds of incidents. Mossad inflames Islamophobia by causing such incidents,” Gokcek said.
  • Egypt: A foreign affairs analyst at Al Wafd daily newspaper was cited in a report by the paper on January 12 as stating: “The Israeli Mossad is behind the terrorist attack against Charlie Hebdo French newspaper.” He added, “The Mossad planned the operation, and provided the attackers with weapons, and most likely the planning of the operation was done in the same Jewish [grocery] store which the attackers went to later.”
  • Egypt: Mohammed Tewfik, a journalist and former member of the militant al-Gama’a al-Islamiyya, accused the Mossad of being involved in the Charlie Hebdo attacks. His accusations were included in a statement published by the Egypt-based Albawabh news website, on January 12. Tewfik stated, “The fast reaction by Israel to the attack, and Netanyahu’s trip to France, his request for France’s Jews to immigrate to Israel, and his call to  establish a new international coalition against Islamic terrorism, are likely [indications] of a Mossad involvement in this crime and an attempt to stick it to the Muslims.”

Anti-Semites have promoted such absurd theories to explain events in Syria, the Boston Marathon bombing, the Sandy Hook Massacre, and the 9/11 terrorist attacks. In the Middle East, there are those that claim that ISIS and the Muslim Brotherhood have secret alliances with the Jews or that the Jews created such terrorist groups for nefarious purposes.

New Black Panther Summit Attracts Support from Diplomats, Academics

2014 NBPP SummitDespite the New Black Panther Party’s (NBPP) overt platform of anti-Semitism and racism, the group’s upcoming “Dignity Summit” has attracted support from diplomats, academics and business leaders, who reportedly will be speaking at the events.

The NBPP claims that among the foreign representatives speaking at the March 28-30, 2014 Summit in Atlanta are Gandy Thomas, the Consul General of Haiti in Atlanta, Randy E. Rolle, the Consul General of the Bahamas in Atlanta, and Daniel Agyekum, the former Ambassador of the Republic of Ghana (though the NBPP’s promotional materials do not indicate he is no longer Ambassador).

According to the program of events, there will also be presentations by Professor Leonard Jeffries of the City College of New York, Professor Akinyele Umoja of Georgia State University, Professor Jacob Savage of Alabama A&M University, real estate and media mogul Michael V. Roberts, and editor-in-chief of Hip Hop Enquirer Magazine Dennis Byron.

By taking on racially-charged issues under the guise of championing civil rights, the NBPP, which is led by Hashim Nzinga, has received national attention for its efforts, garnered some support from prominent members of the African-American community, and attracted followers. The group’s events often feature inflammatory bigotry coupled with calls for violence, tarnishing its efforts to promote black pride and consciousness.

In recent installments of the NBPP’s online radio broadcast promoting the Summit, NBPP National Chief of Staff Chawn Kweli referred to Jews as the “Synagogue of Satan,” employing a phrase commonly used by the Nation of Islam (NOI) and the title of a viciously anti-Semitic book published by the NOI. Kweli praised NOI leader Louis Farrakhan for his “war on the Synagogue of Satan” and encouraged “anybody righteous” to engage in this war.

In last week’s radio broadcast, Kweli also alluded to the NOI’s Secret Relationship Between Blacks and Jews, stating “the so-called Jews…don’t want their hands to be exposed in terms of their role in the trans-Atlantic slave trade,” and continued, “They don’t want you to talk about your enslavement…and how the blood-sucking capitalist jewelers and others have benefited from our mishaps.”

Kweli then interviewed Ashahed Muhammad, Assistant Editor of the NOI’s Final Call newspaper and author of The Synagogue of Satan, which claims that the world is being manipulated and corrupted by Satanic powers led by Jewish elites. The book, which has been heavily promoted by the NOI since 2005, features a foreword by Malik Zulu Shabazz, then National Chairman of the NBPP.

After profusely praising Muhammad and his book, Kweli asked Muhammad what motivated him to write the book to which Muhammad responded with the following reasons: “the battle with the so-called Jews on campus,” Jewish organizations’ “awesome control of public knowledge,” and the “controlled media” that allegedly portrays the African-American community in a negative light.

Continuing to invoke anti-Semitic conspiracy theories about supposed Jewish control, Muhammad described African Americans as being “hoodwinked and bamboozled by the Zionists” who “have to be exposed and uncovered because as long as they are allowed to continue to lie and influence so many people with their lies, they stop us from unifying.”

Detroit Religious Leaders Praise Farrakhan After Latest Anti-Semitic Outburst

Update: One day after Louis Farrakhan delivered an anti-Semitic speech at the Fellowship Chapel in Detroit and was praised by Detroit religious leaders, the NOI broadcast what appears to be a pre-recorded anti-Jewish rant by Farrakhan titled “Making Satan Known.”

Nation of Islam (NOI) leader Louis Farrakhan was welcomed and praised by religious leaders after promoting his anti-Semitic worldview at a Detroit church last week.farrakhan-detroit-fellowship-chapel

During his visit to the city, Farrakhan was invited by Rev. Wendell Anthony, who is also the President of the Detroit branch of the NAACP, to address the Fellowship Chapel on May 17. His speech, which was attended by U.S. Rep. John Conyers and Detroit City Councilmember JoAnn Watson among others, invoked the type of egregious anti-Semitism that has marked him as a hatemonger for over three decades.

Farrakhan referred to “Satanic Jews” and the “Synagogue of Satan” controlling America’s government and other sectors, reportedly stating that President Barack Obama “surrounded himself with Satan…members of the Jewish community.”

Farrakhan also said that the Jewish people “have mastered the civilization now, but they’ve mastered it in evil… Who’s the owner of Hollywood that creates images and makes the people think that what is created on the screen is the way we should live? That’s Satan…Satan has devoured much of humanity.”

“The people that own Hollywood,” Farrakhan added, are “the same people that control your press, the same people that control your media, the same people who are the publishers the same people who are the distributors, the same Synagogue of Satan, and they put you before the world in this disgraceful matter.”

The NOI’s Newspaper The Final Call also paraphrased this part of Farrakhan’s speech thusly: “Jesus was the last hope for the Jewish people, but they rejected him. They are now in control of the media and the airwaves, gaining access to the ‘sacred territory’ which is the minds of the people.”

Instead of raising their voices to publicly reject Farrakhan’s anti-Semitism, some of the leadership in attendance at Fellowship Chapel publically praised him. According to The Final Call, Rev. Horace Sheffield, III of the New Destiny Baptist Church said, “We need someone to give us direction. I believe we have a leader here that can organize us.”

Sheffield also added, “They want to silence people who tell us the truth, and we know why this is happening and who is doing it, but we need some help with how to overcome it.”

Rev. David Bullock of Greater St. Matthew Baptist Church stated that Farrakhan’s message was “impactful,” “timely,” and left him “inspired.”

Imam Mubarak Al-Mubarak of Warithuddin Mohammed Mosque said that “This message that the Minister gave today with respect to the Christians and the pastors is the same message that the Muslims and imams of our association need to hear.”  Imam Al-Mubarak continued, “Many are afraid of truth, and the Minister is more dynamic, more important, and relevant than we could ever imagine.”

Farrakhan’s sermon at Fellowship Chapel echoes his 52-week lecture series titled “The Time and What Must Be Done.” In Part 18 (May 11), Farrakhan discussed his theory that Jews control the President of the United States, saying that Jews will “continue to press my brother as President of the United States to do something about me…President Obama, don’t listen to these hyenas and jackals that are in high places. You would be wise to follow the dictates of your conscience, if it has not been taken by Satan.”
