Some Anti-Semitism In U.S. In Reaction To Israeli Operations In Gaza

As Israel’s response to the latest round of rocket fire from Hamas in Gaza continues, some Jewish individuals and institutions in the U.S. have been targets of anti-Semitism related to the current conflict.anti-semitic-graffiti-synagogue

In Florida this week, two separate anti-Semitic hate crimes desecrated a synagogue and a Jewish family’s property. Congregation Torah V’Emunah, an Orthodox synagogue within close proximity to other synagogues, was spray-painted with the word “Hamas” and swastikas on its front entrance. Additionally a Jewish family discovered that one of their cars was covered from top to bottom with eggs while the other had the words “Jew” and “Hamas” smeared in cream cheese on the windows.

In Malibu, California over the weekend, phrases such as “Jews=Killers” and “Jews are Killing Innocent Children” were found near the entrance to a Jewish summer camp.

Last week, anti-Semitic leaflets, which threatened violence if Israel does not pull out of Gaza, were left on cars in Peterson Park, a predominantly Orthodox Jewish neighborhood of Chicago.

On July 17, about two dozen anti-Israel protesters targeted the Florida Holocaust Museum with graphic images of dead Palestinians and slogans charging Israel with genocide.

Earlier this month, the Chabad of Southern Nevada in Las Vegas was spray-painted with graffiti that read “Fre Palestine” [sic] and “Free Gaza.”

Similarly, in Massachusetts, the Montefiore Orthodox Synagogue in Lowell was vandalized with the words “Free Palestine” and “God Bless Gaza” spray painted in red on its white marble walls.

American Jewish institutions have also been targeted online. The Moroccan Islamic Union-mail hacker group vandalized the website of Congregation Beth Am Israel in Penn Valley, Pennsylvania earlier this month with the phrase “end Israeli violence in #Gaza” and an image of Mohammad Abu Khdeir, a Palestinian who was killed in Jerusalem by what appears to be a group of Jewish extremists.

Additionally, the popularity of some disturbing Hitler-related hashtags on Twitter has grown in reaction to Israel’s “Operation Protective Edge,” such as #HitlerWasRight and #HitlerDidNothingWrong.

Such anti-Semitism is also evident at many of the anti-Israel demonstrations held in cities throughout the U.S., as well as in Europe, where the State of Israel is often demonized with Holocaust imagery or other anti-Semitic expressions.

Hackers Strike Pennsylvania Synagogue Website Over Gaza

Update — October 8: The Moroccan Islamic Union-Mail claimed credit for hacking into the Massachusetts Maritime Academy’s website in defense of  the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

Update — July 21: A similar hack by the Moroccan Islamic Union-mail targeted a congregation in Houston over the weekend.

Politically motivated hackers from the Arab world have once again targeted Jewish websites in the United States. The Moroccan Islamic Union-mail hacker group claimed responsibility today for vandalizing the website of Congregation Beth Am Israel in Penn Valley, Pennsylvania.moroccan-islamic-union-mail-facebook

The group posted a message on the defaced synagogue website stating, “end Israeli violence in #Gaza” with an image of Mohammed Abu Khdeir, a Palestinian who was killed earlier this month in Jerusalem by what appears to be a group of Jewish extremists.

As statement posted on the Moroccan Islamic Union-mail Facebook page claimed responsibility for the hack, describing the synagogue as “A Zionist Assembly.”

Last week, posts threatening Israel “with major operations” and “strong electronic attacks” appeared on the group’s Facebook page after Israel began its military operation to stop Hamas’s rocket attacks from Gaza.

Moroccan Islamic Union-mail take credit for hack on Facebook

The Moroccan Islamic Union-mail also claimed on its Facebook page that it is affiliated with the Moroccan Ghosts, another hacker group responsible for a series of attacks on Jewish websites in the United States over the past two years.

The Moroccan Ghosts re-emerged in recent days with a wave of new attacks on a number of Israeli websites, including the website of the Helping Hand Coalition, an Israeli organization that provides testimonies from Holocaust Survivors (its website is hosted in Illinois). The Moroccan Ghosts posted a propaganda video for the Qasssam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, in Hebrew threatening Israelis with retaliation.

Farrakhan Continues His Anti-Semitic Saviours’ Day Message in Chicago

Nation of Islam (NOI) leader Louis Farrakhan delivered “Part 2” of his Saviours’ Day address on Sunday in Chicago, emphasizing his view that “Satanic Jews…control everything and mostly everybody.”

During his speech at Mosque Maryam, Farrakhan received a standing ovation after telling his audience that, “The Satanic Jews that control everything and mostly everybody, if they are your enemy, then you must be somebody.” The “Satanic Jews,” he added, have “thrown everything at [him] including the kitchen sink, and maybe the toilet too.”

Farrakhan also portrayed Jews as the enemies of Christianity. “Do you know that the enemies of Jesus were the Jews of his day and the Roman authorities? That wasn’t 2000 years ago alone. That’s today!”

These anti-Semitic themes have been a staple of Farrakhan’s weekly online sermons leading up to Saviours’ Day. The speech came a week after his keynote address at the NOI’s Saviours Day convention in Detroit.

Farrakhan concluded his speech by noting that he may not be speaking publicly again for a while. He gave no reason.

In a separate announcement on the Nation of Islam’s Facebook page, the NOI’s “web team” indicated that he “accepted an invitation” to visit Iran
