Farrakhan’s Saviours’ Day Sermon (Part 2) Loaded With Anti-Semitism

While Part 1 of Nation of Islam (NOI) leader Louis Farrakhan’s 2015 Saviours’ Day sermon largely avoided the topic of Jews, in Part 2 of his sermon (March 1), Farrakhan alleged that Jews committed the 9/11 attacks and control the U.S. government.

Part 2 of Farrakhan’s 2015 Saviours’ Day sermon in Chicago

The NOI’s Saviours’ Day provides Farrakhan with an annual platform to display his hatred for Jews. This year, promulgating a number of anti-Semitic conspiracy theories about Jews and 9/11, Farrakhan explained to the congregation at Mosque Maryam in Chicago that  “thanks to the exemplary work of scholars like Victor Thorn and Christopher Bollyn, it is now becoming apparent that there were many Israelis and Zionist Jews in key roles in the 9/11 attacks.”

Citing “evidence” from anti-Semitic 9/11 conspiracy theorists that Israelis were supposedly “arrested immediately after the attacks but quickly released and sent to Israel,” that the attacks were a plot for the Jewish owner of the World Trade Center to collect billions of dollars in insurance money, that “Israelis had foreknowledge of the attacks,” and that “we know that many Jews received a text message not to come to work on September 11,” Farrakhan concluded that 9/11 was a “false flag operation” to start a war between the West and the Muslim world. Blaming Jews for 9/11 is a common NOI tactic for riling up anti-Semitic hatred.

Farrakhan also invoked anti-Semitic conspiracy theories about supposed Jewish control of the American government. He claimed that U.S. foreign aid to Israel is given “without consulting the American people because they [Israel and Jews] have been working for years to control your representatives in Congress, in the Senate, in the House of Representatives.” He also claimed that Israel constantly acts against America’s interests, but “they don’t fear America because they control it from within.”

Additionally, Farrakhan referred to comments by former Harvard Law professor Alan Dershowitz in which Dershowitz listed Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and some U.S. Senators and Representatives as supposedly opposing aspects of President Obama’s foreign policy. Continuing the theme of Jewish control, Farrakhan then adds, “You see what is happening is he is exposing those that he has control over.”

Towards the end of his remarks, Farrakhan mentioned that he planned to talk more about “Jewish manipulation of money products and slavery,” but that he will need to get this message, among others, to his followers at another time.

Nation Of Islam Turns Up Anti-Semitism Prior To Saviours’ Day

In the lead-up to the Nation of Islam’s (NOI) annual Saviours’ Day planned for February 22, the NOI has increased the amount of anti-Semitic content on the website of its “Research Group” and its associated social media accounts.

NOIRG homepage as of Feb. 2, 2015

NOIRG homepage as of Feb. 2, 2015

Under the guise of supposedly publishing “historical research,” the NOI Research Group’s (NOIRG) homepage currently features 13 headlines, 9 of which deal with Judaism. Below are some examples:

  • A February 2 article titled “Kanye West Meets Jewish Power” invokes anti-Semitic conspiracy theories about Jewish control of a number of industries. Discussing Jews as if they act together as one group to keep down the African-American community, Tingba Muhammad writes, “For Jews, our continued subjection and dependency are just good business.” Regarding 2013 comments by Kanye West that President Obama was not delivering because “Black people don’t have the same level of connections as Jewish people,” Tingba Muhammad claims that various groups denounced West’s comments not because of the content of what West said, but rather because of West’s business acumen, which supposedly represented a threat to “Jewish dominance in the fields of business trade, commerce, and finance.” Tingba Muhammad also appeals to myths of Jewish financial control of the Black community in writing that individuals like West are targeted because they represent “the dead-end path Jewish financiers of negro leadership have demanded that we go down.”
  •  In a January 28 piece titled “The Holocaust, History, and Hate,” Ashahed Muhammad reflects on a trip to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, DC, which he describes as “indoctrination at its finest, but what do you expect?” Muhammad asks, “How could a group experience such terrible suffering, yet, in an ironically tragic role reversal, shockingly participate in inflicting the same type of suffering upon others?” Ashahed Muhammad likens the Nazis’ systematic murder of 6 million Jews to Israeli policies in the West Bank and Gaza as well as what he describes as “the documented involvement of Jewish people in developing the architecture of White Supremacy and Jim Crow.”
  •  A December 22, 2014, article, “Back-Peddling Back to God: Lessons from Jewish history,” starts out claiming the Jewish community provides a positive example for the Black community but then descends into the NOI’s typical anti-Semitic theories about supposed Jewish control over Blacks. The article asks, “Who controls the banking, the commerce and trade—the economic and financial aspects—of our Black communities?” It likens Jews returning to the synagogue to “honeybees return[ing] to the hive, to share this intellectual and financial nectar and to strategize about how to MANAGE and CONTROL the territory and its dynamics.”

In previous years, the NOI has also dedicated its online resources to attacking Jews as a prelude to the anti-Semitic Saviours’ Day keynote address by Louis Farrakhan.

Anti-Semitic Conspiracies Continue In Aftermath Of Paris Attacks

Conspiracy theories blaming Jews and Israel for the terror attack at the Charlie Hebdo office in Paris continue to surface in the U.S. and abroad.

In addition to previously reported examples, recent instances of American anti-Semites exploiting the tragedy to promote hatred for Jews include:

Brandon Martinez's on Press TV

Press TV’s reporting on the attacks

  • Paul Craig Roberts, an anti-Semitic syndicated columnist, wrote an article on his personal website claiming that there are suspicions “that the French shootings are a false flag operation.” Roberts identified several reasons for this, including “to stifle the growing European sympathy for the Palestinians and to realign Europe with Israel.”
  • On January 14, in an article in the Nation of Islam’s The Final Call, Assistant Editor Ashahed Muhammad cited a piece by Kevin Barrett titled “Paris Charlie Hebdo Attack: Another Zionist False Flag?” and Paul Craig Roberts to claim that events in France could have been a false flag operation.
  • On Press TV, Iran’s English-language satellite news network, in a January 13 article titled “Analyst wonders whether Cahrlie [sic] Hebdo massacre was staged,” Brandon Martinez blamed “Zionists” for a number of the world’s evils. For example, Martinez wrote that Al-Qaeda and ISIS are “all outgrowths of the same poisonous American-Zionist imperial tree.”
  • On January 12, on Veterans Today, a U.S.-based website that presents anti-Semitic conspiracy theories as news, Senior Editor Gordon Duff published an article titled “Did Netanyahu Give France Their 9/11?” In the article, he describes the attacks as a “comic opera of carelessly staged false flag terrorism” carried out by “the Mossad and the criminal banks, part of the pro-Israeli ISIS organization.”

Internationally, similar conspiracy theories have been published in some media outlets and been promoted by various individuals:

Ankara Mayor Melih Gökçek

Ankara Mayor Melih Gökçek blaming Mossad for the attacks

  • Turkey: According to a report from Anadolu News Agency circulating in the Turkish media, Ankara’s Mayor, Melih Gokcek accused Israel of being behind the Paris attacks. He made his statement during a conference by the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) on January 13. He claimed Israel was annoyed with the lower house of the French Parliament for voting for the recognition of a Palestinian state and with France’s vote in favor of a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolution calling for the same recognition. “Israel certainly doesn’t want this sentiment to expand in Europe. That is why it is certain that Mossad is behind these kinds of incidents. Mossad inflames Islamophobia by causing such incidents,” Gokcek said.
  • Egypt: A foreign affairs analyst at Al Wafd daily newspaper was cited in a report by the paper on January 12 as stating: “The Israeli Mossad is behind the terrorist attack against Charlie Hebdo French newspaper.” He added, “The Mossad planned the operation, and provided the attackers with weapons, and most likely the planning of the operation was done in the same Jewish [grocery] store which the attackers went to later.”
  • Egypt: Mohammed Tewfik, a journalist and former member of the militant al-Gama’a al-Islamiyya, accused the Mossad of being involved in the Charlie Hebdo attacks. His accusations were included in a statement published by the Egypt-based Albawabh news website, on January 12. Tewfik stated, “The fast reaction by Israel to the attack, and Netanyahu’s trip to France, his request for France’s Jews to immigrate to Israel, and his call to  establish a new international coalition against Islamic terrorism, are likely [indications] of a Mossad involvement in this crime and an attempt to stick it to the Muslims.”

Anti-Semites have promoted such absurd theories to explain events in Syria, the Boston Marathon bombing, the Sandy Hook Massacre, and the 9/11 terrorist attacks. In the Middle East, there are those that claim that ISIS and the Muslim Brotherhood have secret alliances with the Jews or that the Jews created such terrorist groups for nefarious purposes.
