Calls for Violence & Nazi Comparisons Mark Weekend Anti-Israel Rallies

Over the weekend, close to 30 anti-Israel demonstrations were held across the United States to protest Israel’s response to the latest round of rocket attacks from Hamas in Gaza. The weekend rallies were rife with comparisons between Israel and Nazi Germany, calls for an end of U.S. aid to Israel, and claims that Israel indiscriminately murders Palestinian children.

Here’s a round-up:

The rally, which was sponsored by Adalah-NY, brought out protesters who held signs stating that “All of Israel is Occupied Territory!” and “Down with the State of Israel! Freedom for the Palestinian People!” (The text of the sign was followed by a Star of David next to a swastika).

After protesters chanted “Resistance is justified when people are occupied!,” and “Not another nickel, not another dime, no more money for Israel’s crimes,” the organizers led the crowd to a Max Brenner chocolate bar where they called for a boycott of the establishment because of its alleged ties to the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF). The action lasted outside of Max Brenner for approximately ten minutes, as protesters led chants such as “We are left with no other action! Boycott, Divest, and Sanction!”

We are not the greedy; we are not the ones with the problem. It is you, it is the Zionist movement, it is the Zionist regime running Israel!”

He also legitimized terrorism against Israeli civilians, saying “We must not handcuff our brothers and sisters in Palestine and dictate the way that they resist colonial domination…Now is that time again! Okay, so let’s stand up and start talking about this in our workplace again! Let’s start glorifying the word martyr and shaheed [martyr] for the beautiful words that they are! Let’s start glorifying our shaheeds [martyrs]!”

White Supremacist “Mantra” Literature Appears In Seattle Neighborhood

Postcard front

Residents of the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Seattle recently found themselves the recipients of a white supremacist literature distribution. Someone had gone up and down streets in the area on June 30, placing racist postcards on the windshields of cars parked along the street.

Postcard back

The postcards were designed to exploit gay pride events held in Seattle the previous weekend, including the 40th annual Seattle Pride Parade and Seattle PrideFest 2014, the latter held only a few blocks from where the postcards were distributed. The postcard fronts featured a rainbow image, the word “Seattle,” and the phrases “Rainbow Pride” and “40 YEARS of fabulous,” the latter a reference to the parade.

However, the back of the postcards was starkly different, displaying in large letters the white supremacist slogan “’Diversity’ is a code word for white genocide.” The postcard text claimed anti-racists are “anti-white” and that they support non-whites “pour[ing] into EVERY White country” to intermarry with whites, thus extinguishing the white race. The pride-related front was simply camouflage for the racist message on the back.

This message was not random but rather the standard language used by white supremacist supporters of the “Mantra.” The “Mantra” is a white supremacist propaganda campaign based on the idea of endlessly repeating certain language and select slogans in the hopes that whites will eventually be receptive to them. The two most common slogans associated with the “Mantra” are “Anti-racist is a code for anti-white” and “Diversity is a code word for white genocide,” both of which appear on the Seattle postcards.

In recent years, white supremacist use of “Mantra”-style propaganda has steadily increased, as racist activists display it on billboards, on freeway overpasses, as graffiti, and across the Internet. Just a few days after the Seattle incident, several white supremacists in Portland, Oregon, picketed the offices of an organization devoted to helping immigrants and refugees, displaying signs and banners that repeated the “Mantra” slogans.

Murder Suspect Fan Of “Patriot” Movement Survivalist Guru

Gary Alan Lewis

After a manhunt that lasted several days, police in Portland, Oregon, have arrested Gary Alan Lewis on murder and unlawful use of a weapon charges for allegedly killing a female tenant and hiding her body in the wall of a shed.

The search for both Lewis and the victim was complicated by the fact that Lewis had built an underground bunker on his property.  Police also feared the possibility of booby traps as they searched the property.

The bunker, which Lewis built a number of years ago, was apparently a product of his “Patriot” movement anti-government and survivalist philosophy.  Lewis viewed the government as a “Total Mafia Organization run by the Elites who want us as Slaves.”  In 2013, Lewis claimed he wanted to move out of Portland and find a “safe place to escape to when the city becomes untenable,” a reference to the common survivalist belief of an imminent collapse of civilization.   A year earlier he posted to a survivalist “Meetup” group that “collapse is eminent [sic] if you have been watching long.”  People, he wrote, “need to prep for Martial law or UN law.”

Lewis, who also used the names Gary Allan Lewis and Gary Loomis, was in particular a devotee of survivalist guru James Wesley Rawles.  Rawles, a blogger, author and survivalist consultant, is most well-known for having written a series of novels popularizing the notion of a “coming global collapse.”  Rawles, though more well-known as a survivalist, has also been an adherent of the anti-government “sovereign citizen” movement.

Rawles’ best known book is a novel called Patriots, about a band of survivors of a global collapse who find a refuge in northern Idaho where they rebuild a society based on “true Constitutional law.”  Lewis described Patriots as “the book that tells it all” on one of his Facebook pages and repeatedly recommended it in on-line postings and comments.

Lewis is even listed on the Meetup group page as having attended a “Preppers Book Club” meeting in the Portland area in June 2012 to discuss another Rawles book, How to Survive the End of the World As We Know It.

Lewis also described Rawles’ Survival Blog as his favorite website.
