“With Open Gates”: Racist Anti-Refugee Video Goes Viral

“With Open Gates: The Forced Collective Suicide of European Nations,” a virulently anti-refugee propaganda video widely circulated on the Internet has received over four million views on YouTube over the last two weeks. The video uses selective footage of African and Muslim refugees and immigrants to depict them as creating mayhem and destruction throughout Europe.

The video ends with a clip of the founder of a Jewish cultural institute in Sweden, who claims that Jews support efforts to promote multiculturalism in Europe. This segment of the video gives fuel to anti-Semites who blame Jews for non-white immigration to Europe. The statement that accompanied the posting of the video on YouTube blames “Zionist interest” for destroying Europe “from the inside.”

The clear aim of “With Open Gates” is to increase anti-immigrant and anti-refugee hysteria in Europe by painting refugees as invaders who are destroying European culture and society and pushing the continent to become a non-white majority.

The racist video originated on 8chan, a controversial Internet discussion forum whose “Politically Incorrect” subforum is notorious for racist and anti-Semitic language. A user with the screen name of Gex appears to have created the video, with some assistance from other users. The same person created an earlier video called “End Times Europe,” which uses some of the same footage.

In its first days of release, it was mostly white supremacists in Europe and North America who were extolling the video. Racists on 8chan and elsewhere worked to promote the video and gain more viewers for it. Andrew Anglin, who runs the neo-Nazi Daily Stormer site, asked his readers to make the video go viral. Jared Taylor, who runs the white supremacist website American Renaissance, also supported the video, as did two popular white supremacist forums, Vanguard News Network and Stormfront. InfoWars, an anti-government conspiracy-oriented site, also highlighted the video.

The Right Stuff, a web site that posts articles and Internet radio interviews by white supremacists, claimed that hundreds of thousands of people had viewed the video in the first 3 days after it was posted. They wrote, “If half of the people who watched this video collectively were as triggered as we were…..Thats [sic] like the largest standing army in europe.”

The video picked up steam in mainstream conservative circles after Breitbart in London featured it in a November 11 column. Breitbart reported that the video was being rapidly shared on social media including YouTube and Facebook and online message boards. The video had over a million views by the time YouTube took it down for copyright violations. However, mirror versions of the video soon appeared on social media sites in the U.S. and Europe. YouTube eventually allowed the video to be viewed again once the copyrighted music had been removed.

In the wake of the Paris terrorist attacks, the video received even more attention, particularly in more mainstream circles. Former Representative Michele Bachman encouraged people to view it, urging, “After 100 killed by Muslims, watch this video on migrants.” In addition, Washington Times contributor and radio show host Steve Deace devoted an entire column to the video. He writes disparagingly of the refugees going to Europe and says that the video shows what could be at stake in America, “if we continue to let our own cultural heritage bleed out.”

“With Open Gates” demonstrates graphically how the ideas of extremists and white supremacists can resonate with a wide audience. It also illustrates just how receptive so many people in North America and Europe are to anti-immigrant and anti-refugee fear and loathing.

Extremists Claim Oregon Shooting Is Sign of White Genocide

The tragic shooting at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon, in which a gunman killed nine people and wounded a number of others, elicited a strong response among a sampling of extremists. When the media released information that the shooter, 26-year-old Chris Harper Mercer, had listed himself as “mixed race” on an online dating profile, white supremacists called his actions a form of “white genocide.”

White supremacists were also quick to reject some media reports that said the gunman had white supremacist leanings. They claimed the gunman was motivated by hatred of whites and Christians. They also blamed Jews for everything from encouraging blacks to kill whites to downplaying the story once the shooter turned out to be non-white.

Since Mercer had expressed an interest in online postings in Vester Flanagan, a black former reporter who shot and killed two white ex-colleagues, posters on Stormfront, the largest white supremacist Internet forum,  promoted the idea that blacks were targeting whites en masse. One poster called Mercer and Flanagan “anti-white terrorists.”

Others on the site focused on Mercer’s mixed race heritage as the cause of his actions. One poster wrote that “light-skinned blacks are the most racist of all. They hate their white blood with a passion.” Another person posting as “White Nationhood” claimed that Mercer’s “interest in the left-hand path [a reference to the occult and black magic] plus racial anxieties probably fueled his anti-white, anti-Christian massacre.” Still another wrote, “Half castes secretly wish to be white, the denial of this godly privilege makes mulattoes insane.”

Some posters on Stormfront saw the shooting as an indication that whites need to take action to arm themselves or live separately from non-whites. Someone posting as “14 words of truth” wrote that the reaction to the shooting would be “many armed men world wide bringing justice to the guilty.” The person added, “All that violence could be avoided by halting white genocide and allowing white folk to live within our own nations in peace.”

“Tenniel” had similar sentiments, writing, “Given the open warfare being now perpetrated against Whites by nonwhites, particularly negroes, in America, it is vital that White people be able to be ARMED AT ALL TIMES IN ALL LOCATIONS IN AMERICA.”

Many of the posters on Stormfront blamed Jews for the shooting. One poster declared, “White genocide is real and there is always a filthy jew [sic] behind it.” “Laidbackguy71” wrote, “Don’t let the Jews jive ya because they are the ones with blood on their hands for all of this.” Another poster claimed, “The jews [sic] keep trying to brainwash people that race mixing is love and a demonstration of tolerance and equality. It is the worst thing a parent can do to a child.”

Still others claimed that the shooting would lead to gun control and disarming the population. A poster on another white supremacist Internet forum, Vanguard News Network, wrote, “It doesn’t matter this was a gun-free zone or that the shooter was a mulatto. Talmudic media won’t report this anyway! What matters is that this story, along with others before, will be exploited to entertain a mentality that ultimately, leads towards disarming American people.”

Ann Coulter Admiration Grows Among White Supremacists

Ann Coulter

Ann Coulter

When political pundit Ann Coulter made disparaging comments on Twitter claiming that presidential candidates were pandering to the Jewish community and questioned some candidates’ focus on Israel during the CNN Republican debate on September 16, white supremacists and anti-Semites were gleeful that she took on what they call “the Jewish question.” Extremists believe that Coulter was exposing alleged “Jewish power” in this country.

This is not the first time that extremists have lauded Coulter for her views. Extremists have been talking about Coulter for a number of years on Stormfront, the largest white supremacist Internet forum.

While there are myriad opinions about Coulter, she has become increasingly popular among extremists who see her as a voice for white nationalism or at least someone who might influence conservatives to move toward white nationalist views.

Coulter does not have any ties to the white supremacists who support her but what she says on issues such as immigration or demographics often resonates with them.

There are generally three extremist perspectives about Coulter: 1) that she is actually a white nationalist who is bringing that cause to the wider public; 2) that she has some good points but should not be embraced because she doesn’t deal with the “Jewish question” (at least until the debate took place), and 3) that she is a neoconservative who is not to be trusted.
