White Supremacists Target Two Anti-Racist Intellectuals

Two white supremacist groups, National Youth Front (NYF) and Traditionalist Youth Network (TYN), have launched a campaign against two intellectuals whose work focuses on race– related issues. The two groups have organized protests on campuses and used the Internet to garner support for their cause.

NYF, a branch of the white supremacist American Freedom Party (AFP), has targeted Lee Bebout, an associate professor of English at Arizona State University (ASU) in Tempe. Professor Bebout is teaching a controversial course called “U.S. Race Theory and the Problem of Whiteness.” NYF members and supporters placed fliers declaring Bebout “anti-white” on campus and in his neighborhood. White supremacist web sites such as Stormfront and Daily Stormer then published Professor Bebout’s contact information. He has since received dozens of threatening and harassing emails and phone messages.

In early March, a small group of NYF supporters, including neo-Nazi Harry Hughes of the National Socialist Movement, continued their campaign against Professor Bebout by holding a protest near ASU. Though NYF has tried to establish chapters on various campuses, the only area of real-world activity appears to be at ASU. The group’s so-called director of national chapters, Daxter Reed (aka Daecca Reed) is based in North Carolina. The leader of the group, Angelo John Gage, is a white supremacist based in New Jersey. He ran for U.S. Congress as an AFP candidate in 2014 and has done podcasts on The White Voice, a racist Internet media site.

TYN, founded by white supremacists Matthew Heimbach and Matt Parrott in May 2013, has promoted a campaign against Tim Wise. Wise, an independent scholar, gives speeches about combating racism at campuses around the country. TYN members and supporters recently protested Wise’s speech at Indiana University at Bloomington on March 11. Thomas Buhls, the head of the TYN chapter at IU—Bloomington, led a group of about 20 supporters who held signs against Wise and about ending “white guilt.” TYN has declared that Wise is anti-white.

According to Buhls, a former Klan member, TYN was joined at the protest by other white supremacists, including neo-Nazi Robert Ransdell and members of hardcore racist skinhead group Supreme White Alliance. Buhls also reported that NYF members joined the protest, which was met by a larger crowd of anti-racist protestors.

Leaders Of Greek Neo-Nazi Party, Golden Dawn, Hold Meeting In New York

Members of Golden Dawn New York with leaders of Greece’s Golden Dawn in Astoria, NY

Leaders of Golden Dawn, the neo-Nazi party of Greece, visited New York during the weekend of October 26 to meet with supporters. The Golden Dawn New York conference featured Georgios Epitideios, a former general and Golden Dawn member of the European Parliament, and Michalis Giannagkonas, head of the party’s West Attica Division. The gathering was held in Astoria, a historically Greek-American neighborhood of New York, where the New York offshoot of Golden Dawn was established in September 2012.

Golden Dawn New York posted several pictures of the event on their website, which depict Epitideios and Giannagkonas speaking at a meeting and then visiting various sites in Astoria, where they reportedly spoke to Greek-Americans about the political situation in Greece. Greek-American leaders and Greek-American civic organizations have strongly condemned Golden Dawn. The attendance at their New York events suggests little support in the Greek-American community for the extremist party, which is known for attacking immigrants in Greece and for its anti-Semitism.

More than a dozen of Golden Dawn’s leaders were arrested in Greece last year for participating in a criminal organization and are awaiting trial. Recent polls in Greece show Golden Dawn with about 6% support, in third place behind the far-left Syriza party (27%) and the governing conservative party, New Democracy (24%).

Golden Dawn New York’s website is filled with anti-Semitic propaganda. In a September 2014 article, the group claimed that the terrorist group ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria ) is a creation of the Israeli Mossad. Other articles talk about alleged Zionist control of the government in Greece.

White supremacists in the U.S. are ardent supporters of Golden Dawn in Greece, and one who attended the event was Matthew Heimbach of the Traditionalist Youth Network. American white supremacist websites, including the American Freedom Party and the Internet forum Stormfront, posted pictures of this past weekend’s event in New York.

Neo-Nazi Candidate To Air Anti-Semitic Radio Ads

Robert Ransdell

In late September, neo-Nazi Robert Ransdell, a write-in candidate* for the U.S. Senate in Kentucky, plans to purchase air time on a mainstream radio station in Cincinnati for seven hour-long radio programs/political ads. The programs, featuring Ransdell’s anti-Semitic and racist views, are the centerpiece of his campaign whose slogan is “With Jews We Lose.”

Ransdell declared his candidacy in May 2014 on two white supremacist Internet forums, Stormfront and Vanguard News Network. There, he also laid out his campaign strategy, which focused on the plans for the radio programs. He wrote, “I will be taking advantage of the reasonable access law which requires that registered candidates for federal office are to be permitted time on the radio.” Other white supremacists have tried this tactic before but the most recent attempt by white supremacist Frazier Glenn Miller was thwarted in 2010 when the FCC said he was not a viable candidate and stations did not have to air his ads.

In his campaign announcement, Ransdell asserted that “these programs will from start to finish be open and frank discussion about Jewish power and control over our country, the truth about the negative effects of diversity and multiculturalism, as well as the need for White people to start opposing their enemies in a fashion where we can liberate ourselves from alien control and not just complain about and observe conditions getting worse.”

Ransdell has been an activist in the white supremacist world since he became a member of the neo-Nazi National Alliance (NA) in 2006. He led the now-defunct Cincinnati unit of the NA, once the largest neo-Nazi group in the country. Under the leadership of Erich Gliebe, who took over the NA in 2002, the group lost most of its supporters and ceased functioning as a membership organization.

In October 2012, Ransdell broke from the NA and went on to become a key player in the National Alliance Reform & Restoration Group (NARRG) a group opposed to Gliebe. NAARG currently has a lawsuit pending against Gliebe due to his alleged mismanagement of the group and its assets.

While with the NA, Ransdell orchestrated a number of racist and anti-Semitic incidents. In April 2012, he posted flyers at the University of Cincinnati offering a $1000 reward to any person who could get Elie Wiesel to show the tattoo that he received at Auschwitz and prove that he was a Holocaust survivor.  Ransdell has shown up at other events to promote Holocaust denial.

In 2011, Ransdell distributed racist flyers in Maineville, Ohio, in response to a black youth killing his white girlfriend. The fliers read “White parents, don’t let your daughters date blacks, it might be a matter of life and death.”  A few years earlier, he posted anti-Martin Luther King, Jr. flyers when a street was renamed after the civil rights leader in Covington, Kentucky.
