White Supremacist Student Leader Creates Web site for his “White Student Union”

Update 8/2/13: A new White Student Union has formed at Georgia State University by freshman Patrick Sharp.

Matthew Heimbach, a Towson University student who is trying to start a “White Student Union” on campus, created a website for the union that further reveals his white supremacist beliefs.

On the newly created site, Heimbach provides links to what he describes are “pro-white” websites.   Almost all of the sites listed, however, are actually openly white supremacist, such as those for the Council of Conservative Citizens (CCC), the American Third Position and American Renaissance.

The CCC is a direct descendant of the white supremacist White Citizens Councils that fought integration in the 1950s and 60s. American Third Position is a whites-only political party whose mission is “to represent the interests of White Americans.” American Renaissance is the racist website run by white supremacist Jared Taylor, who publishes a monthly journal by the same title and hosts an annual conference that brings together some of the leading white supremacists in the United States.

Heimbach recently announced that Taylor will speak at Towson on October 2, 2012.

Heimbach also lists “recommended readings” that include books authored by a variety of well-known white supremacists and racists, such as Francis Parker Yockey’s “Imperium,” considered one of the essential works of modern white supremacy. One book recommended by Heimbach is the novel “Camp of the Saints” by Frenchman Jean Raspail. This racist novel portrays a France being invaded by non-whites who are depicted as disease-carrying and sexually aggressive. The list also features two books authored by the late white supremacist Sam Francis: “Essential Writings on Race” and “Race and the American Prospect.” In the latter book, Francis bemoans the “absence of racial consciousness among whites.”

Prior to creating the Web site, the Towson student newspaper, The Towerlight, published a letter by Heimbach advocating for a white student union.   Flyers were also placed all over the Towson campus that proclaimed: “love your race, support a white student union.”

Heimbach is a former leader of the Youth for Western Civilization chapter at Towson, a group with racist ties whose motto is “defending the West on campus.”

Heimbach still needs the approval of the University to make the White Student Union an officially-sanctioned university group.  His Web site suggests that he will settle for an unsanctioned group if need be.  Either way, he has made clear his intention to impose his white supremacist views on Towson students, staff, and faculty.

Former Youth for Western Civilization Leader Promotes White Student Union at Towson

Matthew Heimbach

Update 8/2/13: A new White Student Union has formed at Georgia State University by freshman Patrick Sharp.

Matthew Heimbach, the former student leader of the now-defunct chapter of Youth for Western Civilization (YWC) at Towson University in Maryland, wants to establish a white student union at the school.

In a September 2 letter to Towson’s campus newspaper, The Towerlight, at the start of the school year, Heimbach claimed that “a White Student Union would represent the unique cultural heritage, folk customs and strong Christian traditions that define white civilization.”

At the end of his letter, Heimbach claimed that the identity of white “folk” has been “trampled and attacked for generations” and that it was time for white students to “stand up for our rights.”

He then focused on two issues that have become ardent causes for the white supremacist movement in the United States: alleged genocide against whites in South Africa, and alleged anti-white assaults and discrimination in the United States.

Heimbach ended his letter with a paraphrase of the “14 words,” the rallying cry of white supremacists worldwide: “We must secure the existence of our people and a future for white children.” Instead, Heimbach, wrote another 14-word phrase, “We must protect the security of Europeans and a future for the next generation.”

Heimbach has become more openly white supremacist in his views since YWC was disbanded at Towson in March 2012.  At that time, YWC received negative media publicity when members of the group chalked “white pride” around the campus. Soon afterwards, the group’s student advisor resigned and YWC lost its standing as an official student organization.

In July 2012, Heimbach attended the national conference of the white supremacist Council of Conservative Citizens. A year earlier, Heimbach also attended a conference of the League of the South, a neo-Confederate group that wants to preserve the South’s “Anglo-Celtic culture.”

In many ways, Heimbach was the model YWC member. He founded the YWC chapter at Towson in September 2011 and couched his language in non-racial terms to gain acceptance from fellow students. This was a strategy promoted by the national YWC when it began organizing student chapters at various universities.

YWC has been relatively inactive as a national organization since its founder Kevin DeAnna stepped down as president of the group in February 2012.

Former Congressman Tom Tancredo to Speak at White Supremacist Conference

Former Congressman Tom Tancredo (R-CO) is scheduled to speak at the national conference of the white supremacist Council of Conservative Citizens (CofCC), according to a recent newsletter distributed by the group. The conference is scheduled to take place July 6-7, 2012, in Nashville, Tennessee. Tancredo’s topic will be “Multiculturalism – the Death of America.”

If this announcement is correct, Tancredo, who is known for his anti-immigrant rhetoric and attacks on multiculturalism, has shown his true colors by agreeing to appear before a group that promotes racism and white separatism. The CofCC traces its roots directly to the racist, anti-integrationist White Citizens’ Councils of the 1950s and 1960s. The group exploits hot-button issues such as immigration and black-on-white crime to inflame fears about minorities and the destruction of white culture in America.

Among the scheduled speakers at the CofCC conference are Don Black who runs Stormfront, the largest and most popular white supremacist Internet forum; Derek Black, Don Black’s son, who runs a radio show with his father on Stormfront, and James Edwards, whose radio show, The Political Cesspool, regularly features racists and anti-Semites.

In the last few years, Tancredo has become increasingly strident in his view that the influx of both legal and undocumented immigrants is destroying American culture. At the Conservative Political Conference (CPAC) in February 2011, at a panel titled, “Will Immigration Kill the GOP?” Tancredo alleged that the “cult of multiculturalism” had hurt the United States and the rest of the world, particularly Western Europe. He asserted that multiculturalism was “the dagger point into the heart of western civilization.”

The CPAC panel was sponsored by Youth for Western Civilization (YWC), a far-right student group, which made Tancredo its honorary chairman. YWC has also decried multiculturalism for “destroying and dispossessing the people and culture of the West.” The term “Western civilization” has become a euphemism in far-right and racist circles to signify white European culture. During a February 2009 lecture at American University that YWC organized, Tancredo suggested that “throughout history, people who are not white Anglo-Saxon have become American by adopting a white Anglo-Saxon culture.”
